Peggy Zelenka’s research as a molecular cell biologist focused on the biological nanomachines present in living cells. Four decades of research at the National Institutes of Health were framed by considerations of cell formation through the interaction and integration of non-living molecules. Her studies now lead her to consider whether this very interaction and integration with respect to biological and cybernetic substrates might be instrumental in advancing human evolution. How will this affect our sense of humankind?
