Sarah Canfield

Sarah Canfield is Assistant Professor and the Chair of the English Department at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. A lifelong reader of science fiction and fantasy, she has pursued that interest as both a fan and an academic. As a scholar, she researches, teaches, and writes about the history and philosophy of science and science fiction from the nineteenth century to the present day. Her focus includes issues of gender, race, and religion in the discourses of science fiction. Recent research projects have focused on The Hunger Games and Star Trek: Voyager, and she will be teaching a course on "Global Frankenstein" in Fall 2018.
